10-Man Everton Stun Manchester United 1-0

Everton pulled off a remarkable 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday. The victory comes despite Idrissa Gueye being sent off early in the match for slapping teammate Michael Keane.

The visitors went down to 10 men in the 13th minute after a defensive mix-up led to a heated exchange between the two Everton players. Keane shoved Gueye during the argument, and the midfielder responded with a slap to the defender’s face.

Referee Tony Harrington showed Gueye a straight red card; a decision upheld by VAR. It was the first time a Premier League player had been dismissed for striking a teammate since Ricardo Fuller slapped Andy Griffin for Stoke City in 2008.

Everton, however, regrouped quickly. Their resilience paid off in the 29th minute when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall curled a brilliant effort from the edge of the box to give the Toffees the lead.

United pushed forward after the break, with Bruno Fernandes coming close earlier in the match when his drive flashed just wide following another Everton defensive lapse. But despite dominating possession, Ruben Amorim’s side failed to break down Everton’s disciplined and compact defence.

The result gives Everton their second away win of the season and lifts them above rivals Liverpool into 11th place on the table. They are now level on 18 points with Manchester United, who remain ahead only on goal difference.
